Berliner Reggae-Location in Gefahr
The YAAM project by the river Spree is under urgent threat to be closed down! We demand the preservation of this open space! Please sign this petition against the closure of the YAAM and support our cultural and youth work! Spread the word!

Lloyd Brevett: Last Of A Legacy
Nice article in last friday’s Jamaica Observer.
SAXOPHONIST Lester Sterling, the lone surviving original member of the Skatalites and Doreen Schaeffer, long-time vocalist with the pioneer band, have added their voices to the list of persons paying tribute to bass player Lloyd Brevett. Brevett, the band’s original bass player, died last Thursday in Kingston at age 80.
† Lloyd Brevett of the Skatalites
Lloyd Brevett did not survive his son for very long. According to the Jamaica Gleaner, he died today at the age of 80. In the Jamaica Observer, his wife “said the 80-year-old’s health had rapidly deteriorated following the shooting death of his son, Okine, in the early hours of February 26 near his home in Seaview Garden, St Andrew, where the family lived.” Lloyd has touched millions of hearts and will always be remembered as one of Jamaica’s greatest. Condolences to his family.

“People have always come together to move to music. In the process communities have been created, social divisions challenged, pleasure exalted over work and a billion relationships have blossomed. At the same time dancing bodies have often been subject to regulation – rules about when, where and how they can move, rules about who is allowed to dance with who, rules about what dancers can wear and put inside their bodies… That, in essence, is the ‘politics of dancing’.”
